5th Competition Announcement

We are glad to announce our 5th Acousmatic Music International Composition Competition “Iannis Xenakis”. This comes after the successful organisation of the previous one which was completed last November with the public performance of the winning pieces, along with compositions by the jury members and Xenakis in 2 very special, fully attended concerts at the Noesis Science Museum of Thessaloniki

For the 5th edition of our competition we are having a great jury chaired this time by Kees Tazelaar

We are looking forward to receiving your works and organise one more time this worldwide celebration of electroacoustic music

We wish you all having a great new year!

Two concerts of Acousmatic Music at Noesis

We are glad to invite you to our 4th Iannis Xenakis Electronic Music Festival on November 11th (17:00 concert A & 20:00 concert B) You will have the unique opportunity to attend two concerts of innovative electronic music in a very special venue, the planetarium at Noesis – Thessaloniki Science Center and Technology Museum. This year, we have the honour to host the renown composer Jonty Harrison who has served as the chair of the jury for this edition of our competition. Between the two concerts, there will be a round-table discussion on a newly published book titled: “Iannis Xenakis – on rhythm in architecture” by Elisavet Kiourtsoglou.

Our 4th competition was, once again, very successful in attracting 222 submissions from all around the world. The artistic and technical level of the submitted pieces was outstanding. Xenakis’ compositional endeavour, an unconditional and insatiable quest in discovering new sounds, has found its way into most of these pieces. In our first concert, you will listen to pieces by the jury members along with “Concrete PH” by Iannis Xenakis. In the second concert, you’ll have the opportunity to listen to the pieces that got an award or distinction in the competition

On behalf of the Contemporary Music Lab, I would like to express my gratitude to all of the participants of the competition, to the members of the jury, to our very special guest Jonty Harrison and all of the wonderful electroacoustic community for helping us make our dreams about modern music a reality. Enjoy this world-wide celebration of acousmatic music in Xenakis’ homeland!

Announcing the Third Competition Iannis Xenakis

In a grey, devastating mood, we announce today our Third International Competition of Electronic Music “Iannis Xenakis”. Unfortunately, our announcement is coming amidst the world-wide, life-threatening pandemic of COVID-19 virus. Since in all world, very austere measures and lock-downs are taking place, maybe it’s a good time for staying at home, contemplating, and being creative while protecting the sensitive groups of people around.

This competition is a very special one since it coincides with the 20 years’ commemoration of Xenakis. We are proud of having with us an excellent jury consisting of highly acclaimed composers and chaired by a legendary figure in electroacoustic music: Annette Vande Gorne.

We wish all of the electroacoustic community, and everybody out there, staying safe and we are looking forward to receiving exciting new works!

Director of the Competition
